As the research and analysis division of the Economist Group, The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) helps leaders prepare for opportunity, empowering them to act with confidence when making strategic decisions. The EIU is the global standard in providing quality, actionable intelligence to the public and private sector, assessing issues that impact the marketplace for over 200 countries.The EIU is recruiting a Principal Economist, China who will be an intellectual leader of the Country Analysis (CA) team, with a focus on China. We are looking for an intellectual leader who can lead a team of analysts to generate insightful, market-leading content on China for our clients. They will be expected to promote and present our views to improve the EIU’s visibility among current and perspective clients, address media outlets and participate in client facing events, and address internal group meetings. The role requires a thorough understanding of China economic data and policy, and the ability to practically apply research and analysis to real world situations.
The Principal Economist, China will have strong leadership skills and be able to effectively develop and guide a team of country analysts and researchers. They will need to demonstrate strong economic and forecasting skills, and be able to convey their knowledge and insight to help guide and train team members in this very crucial area of country analysis services and products. In addition, they will be expected to play a role in shaping the strategy of the CA division and developing its products and services with the aim of expanding business among current and new clients. The Principal Economist, China will report to the Regional Director, Asia.Accountabilities
How you will contribute:
Be an intellectual leader within the CA team, providing timely, market leading analysis and insight on China to a global and cross-regional audienceBe a central point of contact for the region both within CA and externally with clients and the mediaShow a strong sense of editorial judgement and ensure required quality standards for EIU products and services are met at all timesPromote our work on China within The Economist Group (TEG) and externally, and liaise directly with external clients and media organisation on behalf of The EIU, consistent with the values of EIU and TEG Provide briefing engagements to clients on the region when appropriateContribute to the commercial success of the CA business via a focus on value-creation for clientsProvide strategic insight and input to help develop the EIU’s products and servicesWork collaboratively with other senior EIU staff members to support new business development and implement divisional strategyImplement training and onboarding strategies to enhance skills across the teamWork with both analysts and research analysts to mentor them and help them develop their macroeconomic and forecasting skillsExperience, skills and professional attributesThe ideal skills for this role are:
